The National Governors Association Center is engaged in a variety of activities to assist governors and states in strengthening STEM education. In May 2010, we partnered with the NGA Center to convene a cross-section of our industry partners to discuss how industry, governors and states could work to strengthen STEM education and improve state workforce capacity. Meeting participants included: a select number of NGA Corporate Fellows, Innovate +Educate and our national partners as well as other thought leaders.
A summary of our meeting objectives:
- Open channels of discussion across industry partners already supporting STEM education
- Discuss existing industry-supported STEM education initiatives and devise a strategy to disseminate best practices and lessons learned across these initiatives; and,
- Devise a strategy for the NGA Center to serve as a broker of best practices in connecting industry partner support to existing state STEM initiatives and networks.
Key Outcomes One Year Later:
- Continued focus on the Innovate+Educate Board of Directors partnering with NGAʼs 100 Corporate Fellows.
- Launched a public-private partnership to support key innovations within Massachusetts STEM plan, developed and approved by the Governorʼs STEM advisory council.
- In August 2011, convening seven states with the NGA to discuss alignment and policy.
