National Governors Association

The National Governors Association Center is engaged in a variety of activities to assist governors and states in strengthening STEM education. In partnership with the industry-driven Innovate+Educate initiative, the NGA Center convened in May 2010, a cross-section of industry partners to discuss how to assist governors and states in strengthening STEM education to improve state workforce capacity. Meeting participants included a select number of NGA Corporate Fellows, Innovate+Educate national partners and others.

Meeting objectives were to:

• Open up channels of communication across industry partners already supporting STEM education;
• Discuss existing industry-supported STEM education initiatives and devise a strategy to disseminate best practices and lessons learned across these initiatives; and
• Devise a strategy for NGA Center to serve as a broker of best practices in connecting industry partner support to existing state STEM education initiatives and networks.
• These dialogues are the beginning of the process to take the Common Core State Standards to scale across the country.
