I never thought I’d be where I am today while working on my PhD at the University of New Mexico in counseling psychology and education. That degree has taken me on a fabulous journey, working with young adults to better their lives and help them reach their fullest potential. I’ve worked with the Job Corps for the past 26 years in many positions, one as the Executive Director of the Job Corps National Training Institute and most recently at the Albuquerque Center as their Student Training Director and Business Community Liaison, where I have promoted and coordinated workforce and skill based education programs. This has given me a solid network for developing quality leadership, diversity, and career improvement/incentive programs. I have worked at aligning resources and implementing innovative ideas through partnerships in combining community needs, education, training and professional development for youth and the community. What I’ve learned through all of that is… working with the students and knowing them has made me better. Watching young people begin to see what they can achieve is one of the most gratifying things I can think of. Coming to Innovate+ Educate gives me another opportunity to use my honed skills to reach more “at promise” youth.
