Julie Strategos

Julie Strategos is the National Strategist for Innovate + Educate, responsible for national expansion strategy and state engagement with industry and organization partners.  She has over seven years of experience working in STEM education outreach, as strategist and outreach leader.  Her experience includes advisory board leadership, industry/education relationship development, competition strategic planning and advocacy, public speaking and panels, and national/state policy influence.

Prior to joining Innovate + Educate, Julie spent thirty years in the Aerospace and Defense industry, including program management and portfolio management valued up to $600M, functional management of over 6000 IT and engineering personnel, technical management, supplier management, and proposal development.  Julie’s last assignment at Lockheed Martin Corporation was the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education Initiatives leader for Corporate Engineering and Technology.  She defined and led the CE&T strategy for support to, and participation in education initiatives that will increase the STEM pipeline and inform students of the excitement of engineering and technology careers.  She led the development of corporate outreach programs, including “Introduce a Girl to Engineering”, high school partnerships for research and internships, and STEM 9-16 pipeline strategies.

Prior to this assignment Julie was Chief Engineer & Vice President of Technical Operations, Undersea Systems (USS), where she was responsible for program execution and technical leadership.  Julie came to USS in 2006 from the Vice President, Operations position for the Integrated Deepwater System (IDS) in the Integrated Coast Guard Systems joint venture, where she was responsible for execution of the IDS program at the System Integration Program Office. 

Julie was Vice President of Engineering for the Integrated Systems & Solutions (IS&S) Company, where she led 6000+ engineers in 2004.  Just prior to the formation of the new IS&S Company, Julie was Vice President, Technical Operations, M&DS.  In 2001 Julie was Vice President, Supplier Relationships in the Global Supply Chain Management organization located in Bethesda MD, with responsibility for supplier relationships, subcontract management and supplier diversity.

Julie was Director, Washington Technical Operations for Management & Data Systems in 2000, with responsibility for all technical personnel in the Washington Metropolitan Area.  From 1996 through 1999 she was the Program Director, Global Command & Control System - Army, a systems integration and software development program in Lockheed Martin Mission Systems.  Prior to that Julie held successively more responsible positions as a program manager. Julie was employed by General Electric Corporation, Aerospace Division in March, 1984 as a software engineer on Defense Mapping Agency programs.  Prior to joining GE Aerospace, she worked as a software engineer for Northrop Grumman and for Raytheon. 

Julie graduated from Duke University in 1981 with a BS in Computer Science.  In 1993 she completed a MS in Engineering Management at Drexel University.  She also completed executive training at Stanford University Graduate School of Business and Wharton Graduate School of Business. Julie is a certified program manager and facilitator.

Julie serves as Chair of the Corporate Advisory Board for the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology and as a member of the Maryland FIRST Executive Advisory Board.
